Sauna.

This is the best foreign horror film ever. Words can't describe it. See it for yourself if you can find it. I think it's coming out on netflix. I am slightly obsessed.

Quarantine

The main actress is fantastic. I call this Blair Witch Project meets 21 Days Later.

The Last House on the Left (remake)

This is a remake of the 70's Wes Craven version so I was skeptical but also excited to see how the new one would turn out. I hadn't even seen the trailer yet when I got a special screening ticket (cause the Last House doesn't come out in theaters until Friday). I wasn't sure about how I felt the opening scene, although there was a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm pretty sure the "son" in this movie played a part in Mystic River. I didn't know any of the other actors, but they were all very good.

The Last House on the Left was as good if not better than the 70's original version. The plot is very similar but there are major differences between the two versions, especially in the final outcome.

Eden Lake

Eden Lake is The Last House on the Left meets Funny Games. I find the plot to be somewhat original and edgy. The actors are all great. Don't watch this while eating your dinner.

The Strangers

This movie was pretty good all in all. I'm glad I saw it in the movies because this is one to see on a nice screen. I would love to watch this on a nice hi-def tv on blu ray or something. Anyway, Liv Tyler is awesome (hadn't seen her in anything since Armageddon). I guess it may drag on a bit, slightly. This is a MUST though.

Fingerprints 2006

I liked this movie. I like supernatural horror films. It didn't have a lot of intense cultural meaning but the story was well told. It had groovy character actors like Sally Kirkland and Geoffrey Lewis. The other actors were good too. Leah Pipes as Melanie is a girl who O.D.'s, then dies and comes back to life. Therefore she can see dead people, specifically dead kids from a bus crash in San Antonio, Texas. That works for me. They also did a nice job with a little commentary on how difficult it can be to regain a good reputation after something goes wrong. Even Melanie's family doesn't trust her after her mishap. So what does it take to come back from something like that?

The Ruins

The Ruins (2008, directed by Carter Smith) was plenty gruesome and filled with enough suspense! It was also great to see Jena Malone (Donnie Darko's girlfriend in Donnie Darko) in this type of movie, she is excellent. What I thought was going to be another Hostel/Turistas type movie turned into something else (a killer plant movie?). But since there weren't really any "bad guys" in this movie (only bad plants), it kept it interesting.
